Ava loves sharing the world of anatomy with her passionate students. "Our bodies are our greatest teachers!"

Ava Moreno entered the yoga and fitness community through her first love: dance. She began her dance training as a toddler, training in all forms of dance. After having struggled with a severe eating disorder and several dance injuries due to her hypermobility when she began her professional dance career at age 16, Ava found Colleen Quinn, a highly knowledgeable personal trainer and physical therapist. A knee reconstruction at age 20 led Ava to look into deeper ways of understanding and helping her body. Although Ava had first been introduced to yoga at age 11 through dance, it was not until she entered recovery from her eating disorder that she began practicing regularly, discovering the peace, focus, and stability–both physically and mentally–it brought her. Throughout her recovery, Ava studied nutrition and began to explore the yoga, fitness, and wellness world.

Inspired by her trainer, Colleen, Ava went on to receive her personal training certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Shortly after, she completed her RYT 200-hour yoga teacher training with David Vendetti and Todd Skoglund of South Boston Yoga in 2014, which included her first exposure to teaching myofascial release and trigger point therapy. She completed her 50 hour yin training with Rebekah Rivera in 2016 and 300 hours for her RYT 500-hour certification with Julia Planine-Troiani in 2017. Ava studied myofascial release further with Natasha Snow Needles at SoHo Yoga, and she completed an additional 300 hour training with Rebekah Rivera in 2019, which included lectures with Jill Miller, the creator/author of Tune Up & The Roll Model. In 2020, she completed an additional 50-hour yin training with Bernie Clark at Semperviva Yoga in Vancouver. Most recently, Ava became Reiki 1 & 2 attuned with Justin Randolph at Sol Seek Yoga and completed a 75-hour advanced training in the art of teaching Kula-style vinyasa yoga with Nikki Vilella and Lauren Haythe in upstate New York. She also has extensive training in Pilates and barre, and she teaches all over the greater Los Angeles area, as well as online and all over the world through her platform, THE WORK by Ava. She started leading yin yoga teacher trainings in 2018, and loves sharing the world of anatomy with her passionate students. Our bodies are our greatest teachers!

Amanda’s mantra for her patients is simple “I am aware of the connection between my mind and my body. I am listening to the feedback of my body and I am taking the time and using the tools I’ve been given to restore my health naturally, holistically.”

After years of education, practice, and discovery, Amanda now runs a Hermosa Beach-based acupuncture practice Kuleana Holistic Health. A typical appointment may include cupping, guasha, and/or an herbal consultation, depending on the needs and wants of the patient.

Amanda grew up on the island of Martha’s Vineyard and moved to Southern California after college, where she studied at Northeastern University’s vaunted pre-med program. In the midst of preparing for the MCAT, she took a trip to Sri Lanka to work at an orphanage. It was there that she first began seriously practicing yoga, and when she returned, she underwent teacher training. Upon completing her training, Amanda began teaching yoga and also became a spin instructor. As often happens, such an active lifestyle began taking a toll on her body, which she addressed with regular acupuncture treatments. It was during this time that Amanda fell in love with the power of acupuncture.

Years later, on a yoga retreat in Costa Rica, Amanda decided to dedicate herself to the study and practice of acupuncture. Upon her return to the U.S., she enrolled at Emperor’s College. During her time there, she participated in clinical training at Being Alive Community Clinic in West Hollywood, California, as well as at the prestigious Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center in Burbank, California, and Venice Family Clinic in Santa Monica. Amanda graduated with honors and a Master’s in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the esteemed Emperor’s College in May 2018.
